In Hong Kong This Month?
Friday December 4th, 2009
Gareth Brown’s somewhat otherworldly dance photographs are on display this month at several galleries in Hong Kong, if you’re in/planning a trip there this month. Maybe a reason for a last-minute vacation?

His first show kicks-off the Swire Island East Urban Dance Festival, and appears at the ArtisTree gallery. From his press release:
Together with a star-studded line up of professional dancers, Brown took on a journey to explore Hong Kong. While Island Eastern Corridor, High Island Reservoir, Waterfall Bay, Mount Davis Battery, Cha Kwo Ling and Kai Tak Fire Station may not be the most popular spots to visit for local residents and an even more unlikely venue for dance performance, Brown and the dance performers considered the cultural and historical significance of these sites as they seek to explore the relationship with the environment at large…
…the exhibition comes to a finale on the event day (12 December) of the Swire Island East Urban Dance Festival. Choreographer Christina Jensen will work on Brown’s photographs and incorporate them as part of her site-specific, flowing dance piece, adding a new dimension to both the photo works and the dance.
It’s actually been quite difficult picking a few images to represent his show, because they’re all pretty fascinating. A few more:
