American Craftsman
Thursday September 23rd, 2010
Tadd Myers, who bases his work in Dallas, has a project that’s worth seeing. American Craftsman is a collection of photos which show the careful and painstaking work done by people who still work with their hands to produce unique, one-of-a-kind artifacts. Take a look at this video, produced for the Oxxford Clothing Company:
Tadd has dedicated this “Portrait of the American Craftsman” to his father, Landis Wilson Myers, who Tadd describes as a “true craftsman”; he was “a wood worker, home builder, metal worker, guitar player, printing pressman, baseball player, self-made business man, and a ‘fixer’ of almost anything.”
The work done by these craftsmen reminds us how many things were once made piece by piece; artisans represented in the project include a pewter (Danforth Pewter in Middlebury, VT), a stagecoach maker (Jay Brown Stagecoaches in Weatherford, TX), and most recently a wooden toy maker (Maple Landmark Wooden Toys in Middlebury, VT).
Tadd tells us that he is discussing an American Craftsman Project book with a publisher—so be on the lookout for an announcement! You can also submit a craftsman if you have any suggestions.
