Under the Mykonos Moon
Tuesday July 12th, 2011
One of the top perks of being a photographer is the frequent travel. Some photographers are able to traverse the globe while on assignments, often seeing beautiful and otherwise off limits locations. Recently, Julien McRoberts got the kind of travel assignment no one could resist—fly to Mykonos, Greece to stay and shoot at the beautiful Villa Hurmuses.

The original assignment was for Julien to simply capture new images around the villa for their website, but upon further research, Julien realized they needed more than just a few new interior shots. Julien explains,
I did a review of all the images on their web and booking portals, including analyzing the guest reviews. The general theme of the reviews was that the images did not do the beautiful villa justice and highlights were primarily about the staff, the food, going to the market with the cook, the attention to details, the proximity to town, etc. None of this was conveyed in the clients’ current images, nor were there any images to show to potential visitors what Mykonos is like and what they could expect to see.

After conveying these thoughts to her client, Julien suggested taking additional interior and exterior shots along with photos that captured the essence of the villa and the town itself. The client loved her idea and told Julien to go for it. In the end, Julien’s additional images paid off,
Not only would my client be able to use the images for booking needs, but we also discussed marketing the images to home and travel publications thus allowing for even more exposure. The villa is rated as one of the top 20 villas in Greece, so why not make the shoot more comprehensive?

Julien enjoyed being able to help her client, not just through her photography, but through her marketing concepts. And of course, she loved her time in Greece where she met some amazing people and even found some new opportunities,
One day, we Stopped at the Rarity Gallery, the most prestigious art gallery on the island. Once they saw that I had a wide angle lens, they asked if they could hire me to shoot a few shots of the gallery. They were so nice that I gladly captured a few shots for them. They were thrilled with the images and when they went to my web site they fell in love with my work and offered me a solo show next year.
Julien’s client was thrilled with their images as well, gushing, “What gorgeous shots, I love them! You’ve done a great job and I hope we can work together again in the near future. It was a pleasure working with you, you were amazing.”
